Pat Savage was born in 1931 in Sevenoaks, Kent, England. Pat trained at Goldsmiths’ College School of Art and the Royal College of Art Sculpture School, London. Initially a sculptor, she now works as a printmaker and batik artist. Her prints portray human ideas and emotions. She is interested in the relationship of the human form to natural and man-made structures. She draws inspiration from life around her, from biblical and other stories, poetry, circus, mime and dance performances. Her etchings, which use strongly etched lines and aquatints are printed from copper plates which are run through a press. Other prints are from cut linoleum and are hand printed, a further group are monoprints, some printed on a press, others printed by hand. She has produced illustrations for book publishers and also work for schools and churches, commissions have been for altar frontals, banners, hangings and sculpture. Pat has exhibited in England as a member of both the Batik and Sussex Guilds and has been a participant in South East Open Studios since its inception in 1997. Each year the studios are open to the public for two weeks while resident artists are at work. As well as participating in numerous group exhibitions, Pat held a solo exhibition in the Barbican Library Foyer, London in 2006. Her work is held in Art Centre, Education and Hospital collections in England, and by private collectors in Australia, America, France, Switzerland and England. |
